I'm sitting here, CNBC blaring in the foregound, trying to put the pieces together...sometimes it feels like re-clothing a tree, dressing it up with the fallen leaves lying about its trunk. It's a very solitary endeavor, but I take some satisfaction in the old saying,
conversation enriches the understanding...but solitude is the school of genius.
A breath of fresh air has once again emerged, my friends, amidst the one-sided dearth of media propaganda claiming the moral values and sanctity of American actions, at the same time painfully contradictory images from Abu Ghraib, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Iraq surface to suggest otherwise. It seems truth can never be completely squashed, as the welcome arrival of the bloggers attests. Of course, cynics might suggest that blogs represent fabulous tools of disinformation whereby the powers-that-be engage in elaborate psy-ops. But I think one has to take some things on faith, though in the end, as my Lebanese friend often says (referring to politics),
you never really know who's fucking who.
In a less emotionally distraught environment, one admittedly less paranoid, people might easily note the dubious nature of such relentless mental conditioning, and the emphatically stark
Manichean proclamations. People might even rally against tyrannies, opting for the government that governs least - to see events for what they are...to call a spade a spade, as it were.
In the 1920's, for example, there were news outlets that had no problem discussing what
many today would consider horribly controversial, even racist. There were frank discussions on many important topics. One notable investigation took serious looks at the rather obvious Jewish domination of the burgeoning film industry, which continues today (if you are a gentile and are running head to head for a job position with say, the William Morris Agency as a talent agent, for example, please goyim, give up the ghost - you've got no chance!).
But in the 1920's, there was a genuine attempt to frame some perspective on what can be recognized today as a tremendous tool that can mold minds, and perhaps serve a particular agenda (Fahrenheit 911 - plenty of info. on Saudi business interests, but amazingly, none dealing with that other Semitic people, aka the American Jewish nation). Today there are attempts at uncovering the truth, pleasantly free of the kind of racist-based dialectic - the kind of racism that influences and pervades still to this day the American psyche, and further, the imperial adventures in places teeming with "brown peoples" or the "other."
Do you think Artest popped that little white guy in Detroit simply because he tossed a warm cup of Milwaukee's Best in his face? The NBA is dying to keep the wraps on the racist slurs that are lobbed at players game in and game out...like the despicable grunts that some European soccer fans direct at African players in matches. Artest was merely dishing out a little of what slave-owning America has always given inferior peoples as their daily measure. A little bob and weave, and a quick jab.
During the early 20th century, films were made early on which cemented the notion of American morality, and most definitely, the inherent evil of other specific peoples (The Sheik, early 1900's - evil Arabs, The Searchers, mid 1950's - evil indians). We come away from those times and find that attitudes have not only remained stagnant, but they have in fact been concretized (Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, Not Without My Daughter, ad nauseum).
I think that it is an honest and fair question to ask who decides what we see and hear.
Is there a prevailing sense that Arabs and Muslims must be demonized while Jews are sanctified? Who decides this? Harvey Weinstein; Steven Spielberg; Sidney Pollack; Barry Diller; maybe those Semites that own the porn industry; Katzenberg; Geffen; Goldie Hawn??
Are all we left with today is "the fool plus one theory?"
The United States has from day one existed as a country in defiance of authority - like the bratty kid next door who when stripped of his pellet gun, re-emerges with a sling-shot; and then a rock; and then a dirt clod. When does it end? Where will it end? I leave that to the comic book minds of those milling about around us, eating profuse amounts of ground beef, so much in fact, that their hearts and minds now have the consistency of ground round...aka, the American people.
Like Confucius say, bloodhound who keep nose too close to ground, never see charging tiger.
